AUTISM

This web site is for the purpose of sharing information with other parents, teachers, and professionals interested in autism and other related disorders.

What do I know personally about autism? A lot! Three of my four children have been diagnosed with autism.

Why provide this information? Parents can talk to the professionals who may have diagnosed their child with autism and gather information this way. But many times, it is impossible for parents to learn what they need, and want, to know from the few questions they are able to ask these professionals.

Why do parents need this information? It is difficult to handle something when you don't understand it. In providing this information, I hope to be able to answer many of your questions about autism.

Why do teachers and professionals need this information? It is estimated that nearly 400,000 people in the U.S. today have some form of autism. This makes autism the third most common developmental disability - more common than Down's syndrome. Yet the majority of the public, including many professionals in the medical, educational, and vocational fields, are still unaware of how autism affects people and how to effectively work with individuals with autism. I hope that any teachers or professionals who visit this web site will find the information provided here to be helpful to them in understanding autism.

Not only will I try to provide information on autism and other related/similar syndromes, but I hope to get input from you! I hope that you will share any information you have with me and all those who visit this site. When I receive information, I will post them on this site to share with others.

In the near future, I hope to be able to publish a online newsletter to all who are interested. For this, I hope to have your input also.

At the end of this page is a link to a questionaire that I hope you will fill out.

Not only will I try to provide information on autism, I will be providing information on related disorders, such as Asperger's Syndrome, Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD), Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Not Otherwise Specified (PDDNOS), and so on. As I am most similar with autism, I am hoping that parents who are dealing with these and other related disorders will send me information so I can update this site.

Please go to the following links to read the information on each syndrome. And please take the time to fill out my questionaire.
